Step 1 - Heath and Safety
Wear appropriate protective clothing, rubber gloves and old clothes are a good idea, protective glasses are also recommended as splashing may occur. Always take care if working from a ladder or scaffolding.
Step 2 - Remove Flaking Paint
If masonry paint is not applied correctly, i.e. the wall has not been properly rendered or previous layers of paint are flaking off. You are likely to have lumps and bubbles in your surface layer, too.
Remove flaking or peeling paint using a putty knife, scraper or wire brush.
Step 3 - Remove Fungus and Algae
You can get rid of fungus and algae by applying Sprayaway to the affected surfaces. This should be applied at least 24 hours before the next stage of the process, and always on a fine day.
Step 4 - Apply the Chemical Stripper
Apply Durostrip Masonry Stripper using an old brush, to the area being treated. You can mark out areas and do the stripping in small stages if you prefer. Once you have applied the product leave in situ until the paint has completely softened or blistered.
This can take from 30 minutes to several hours depending upon paint thickness, number of layers, paint type and ambient temperature.
TIP - Durostrip works quicker on a warmer day.
Step 5 - Removing Old Paint
Use a pressure hose to wash away the mix from the wall. Some intricate areas, or areas where the paint was exceptionally thick, may require a further application.
