With any household problem, the key to finding a permanent solution for mould and mildew is to find the source of the problem. When you deal with the source you will find that the repercussions will be much less persistent. Even after the cause has been found you still need to clean up all the mould from your home, several options available to you.
Bleach - When cleaning up mould, bleach can be highly
effective. It can destroy practically any type of indoor mould. As well as being a hazardous chemical to work with, bleach has
its own drawback in that it can only work effectively on non-porous
materials such as tiles and glass. Bleach cannot penetrate through
materials, so it is only suitable for use on a few substrates. Attempting to use bleach on porous surfaces is not
advisable because although the surface may look cleaner the roots of
the mould will be left untouched beneath the surface.
Ammonia - Just as toxic as bleach, ammonia is also efficient
at removing mould on a non porous surface. The fast results come at a
price and comes with a warning to keep completely clear from bleach.
The combination of the two creates highly toxic fumes.
Vinegar - Used often enough around the home, vinegar is an
easily obtained option. Being acidic, vinegar
can kill around 82% of mould varieties within the home. Unlike
bleach, vinegar does not emit any toxic fumes and does not pose a
threat to you or your family. The best choice is white distilled vinegar, which can be bought cheaply in a
supermarket. Though it is less effective than other treatment's for
mould it is friendly towards your family and your bank balance.
Non Toxic Solutions - Although many mould removal products on
the market are hazardous, there are also other highly
effective products which do not offer the same level of threat. Non
toxic solutions such as MoGo Mould Remover and Damp Seal are fast
acting treatments which often surpass the results of its toxic rivals.
With the ability to absorb the moisture from the surface, these non
hazardous solutions can produce long lasting results and create a
barrier to help prevent any reoccurrence.
Our MoGo range of treatments has recently expanded to include the new 'MoGo Damp Seal' a preventative product that can be painted onto any surface. Available to buy now from here.
